A short message from Ben: August 2024
'Most people are addicted to their smartphones. The group that has owned a smartphone from a young age can't imagine a life without it, and they are vulnerable in the event of an internet blackout. They might experience mental instability and anxiety.
Your world has witnessed panic multiple times when social media went down for a few hours. Imagine what could happen when these hours turn into days or weeks.
We want you to prepare this group with a 'What If' question. Ask your child, niece, nephew, grandchild and so on what they would do if they didn't have access to their phone for a couple of days.
They probably think this will never happen; they can't imagine doing anything without their phones. You can offer them examples of things to do.
Playfully prepare the ones glued to their phones—without scaring them—for what they can do without a phone. The possibilities are endless.
There is an enormous outside world to explore, which will calm them down. Being in nature will distract them.
Make a 'What If' list together with fun indoor and outdoor activities. I think you will be glad you made that list in advance.
You can also reassure them (and perhaps yourself as well) that it is temporary.
Always here to assist you.
Ben'
